phyndME Installation Guide

The phyndME IP Phone Jack has a unique ID associated with it. In addition to this unique ID, the Jack requires a destination IP address to send its location information to.

The phyndME comes in three models:

1. HARDCODED JACK. The destination IP address of the Location Information Database is hardcoded into the device. In this particular case, no device programming is required.

2. OTP JACK. Once the device is connected to the network for the first time, the device automatically fetches the destination IP address from a BOOTP or a DHCP server. This destination IP address is stored in the phyndME Jack’s OTP memory.

3. PROGRAMMABLE JACK. The destination IP address and the optional location information are programmed into the internal flash of the Jack via the USB Programming Interface.

The IT administrator will have already set up the Location Information Database associating the device ID of the Jack with location details. The phyndME Jack will be installed in the location corresponding to the database location that is associated with its device ID.

The device ID of the phyndME Jack is its MAC

address. This method uses a BOOTP or DHCP process to get the destination IP address that is programmed into the Jack’s OTP memory. The OTP Jack will use this IP address as the destination address for transmitting location information of any IP device connected to it.

In order to perform this installation, a PDA or a laptop with USB and network connection is required. The installation can be done using an Internet browser. To start the installation, log into the Location Information Database.

Step 1: Connect the USB cable from the PDA or laptop to the USB Programming Interface on the phyndME Jack. This will fill the Device ID field with the information read from the Jack.

Step 2: Enter the location data in the Location field.

Step 3: Click on the Submit button to complete the setup. The database will now be populated with an entry associating the device ID of the phyndME Jack with the location.

Repeat steps 1 to 3 above for each of the phyndME Jacks.

Note: Under normal operations, the Device ID will not need to be modified. However, should changes need to be made, a confirmation dialog will pop up prompting the user to accept the changes. When the changes are accepted, the phyndME Jack is updated with the new device ID following which the database is updated.
